Check that the directory suits the task
192.com brings together UK directory information and records from sources including the open electoral register and Companies House. Some information is free; access to other records requires purchased credits. Read the current product description before paying, because a large collection of records is not the same as a guaranteed answer.
Its help pages explicitly say that it does not provide a person's exact age or date of birth, mobile telephone number or email address. If one of those is your objective, buying more directory credits will not make that information part of the product.
Understand why someone may be missing
People can opt out of the open electoral register. 192.com explains that electoral records it publishes from 2003 onwards come from that open version. An absent result therefore does not establish that someone is unregistered, has left the country or is deliberately hiding.
A result can also be historical. Check the year attached to a record and describe it accurately in your notes. An address associated with someone in an earlier year should not be presented as a confirmed current address.
Make a careful search plan
Begin with details you already hold legitimately and a clear reason for checking them. Do not purchase a succession of near matches simply because the name looks familiar. Decide what information would distinguish the right record before opening paid results.
- Write down the known name, relevant town and date of your existing information.
- Check spelling variations without assuming differently named records belong to one person.
- Note the source and date for each result, including searches that produced nothing.
- Check the price, credit expiry and what opening a record includes before buying.
- Treat a possible match as unconfirmed until the relevant details have been assessed together.
Use the result proportionately
Keep any personal information private and relevant to your purpose. A directory entry is not an invitation to visit a home, publish an address or pursue unwanted contact. If your records conflict, or your reason for tracing someone involves a dispute or safety concern, pause. PDC can offer initial pointers on the gaps in your information and whether a professional assessment would be useful.
Questions you may have
Is every 192.com search free?
No. The site distinguishes free services from paid records. Check its current help and pricing before registering for a paid package.
Does an old record confirm where someone lives now?
No. Preserve the record's date and avoid treating a historical association as a current address.
