About this information
This page explains how to use the website’s service information and free resources. It does not set the commercial terms for an investigation or replace an agreed client contract.
For a particular instruction, ask PDC for the applicable written agreement and clarify anything you do not understand before authorising paid work.
Information to help you decide
The service descriptions, guides and checklists are intended to help you understand available options and prepare useful questions. They cannot assess every individual circumstance. A free pointer is preliminary information, based on the limited outline provided, rather than a completed investigation, legal opinion or promise of an outcome.
If a decision involves a court deadline, a legal claim or a financial commitment, obtain advice appropriate to that decision. The fact that information is publicly available does not settle whether a particular use of it is appropriate or lawful.
Starting paid work
A website visit or initial enquiry does not by itself authorise paid investigation work. Discuss the objective and whether PDC can assist, then agree the scope, costs and reporting arrangements in writing. For an instruction from a solicitor or company, identify who is authorised to act.
Ask for the cancellation, payment and expenses arrangements applicable to your matter, including any work you want to begin urgently. This information page does not alter your statutory rights.
Using the resources responsibly
You may use the free checklists and guidance to prepare your own lawful enquiry. Keep source dates and context with any information you collect. Do not present general guidance as an endorsement by PDC of your findings or as proof that an allegation is true.
- Do not use the website to impersonate another person or misrepresent your authority.
- Do not attempt to access another client’s account, confidential files or restricted systems.
- Do not submit material you are not entitled to share.
- Do not reuse the PDC name, logo or artwork to suggest an affiliation that has not been agreed.
Outside websites and changing information
Links to official records, useful organisations and PDC’s associated websites help you continue your research. Those websites have their own terms, privacy arrangements and charges. Check the original source and its context before relying on the information.
Search tools, records and procedures change. Check the date and scope of any information before relying on it, and tell PDC if you find a broken link or an apparent error.
Questions, corrections and complaints
Contact info@pdc.org.uk with the relevant page address and a short explanation. If your concern relates to a paid service, include the case reference if available and ask for the matter to be considered through the complaints process. Avoid attaching a complete confidential file to an initial website query.
Questions you may have
Does asking for a free pointer commit me to a fee?
Reading a free resource or asking for a basic pointer does not itself authorise paid investigation work. Agree the scope and any charge before commissioning a service.
Are these the terms of my investigation?
No. Your written instruction and applicable client agreement need to set out the service, fees, reporting and cancellation arrangements for your particular matter.
